A terrifying incident unfolded at Macklemore’s Seattle home over the weekend while his young children were asleep upstairs.
According to a Seattle Police Department report obtained by People, two intruders broke into the Capitol Hill home just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 7. The suspects allegedly entered through a back patio door, bear-sprayed the family’s nanny, and ransacked the house while the rapper’s three children were asleep upstairs.
The woman who called 911 was later identified as the family’s nanny. The report revealed that the two masked men forced their way into the house and demanded valuables.
“She escaped, but three children were still inside the house,” the police report said. “[The caller] also added that the house belonged to a high-profile individual…. and that she believed the crime may have been politically motivated for some reason.”
The Seattle Times confirmed that the address listed in the police report matched the voter registration of Ben Haggerty—better known to fans as Macklemore. The report also left the name “Davis” unredacted in one section, which aligns with the surname of Macklemore’s wife, Tricia Davis.
The rapper has not publicly addressed the incident yet, but his recent public comments have sparked speculation about a possible motive.
The police report paints a chilling picture of what the nanny endured. She said she was putting the children—Sloane (10), Colette (7), and Hugo (3½)—to bed when she noticed two masked men entering the home through a typically unlocked patio door. Both suspects wore face coverings, gloves, and vests.
According to her statement, the men sprayed her with bear mace and yelled, “Where are the jewels, b-tch?” She led them to the master bedroom, where they rummaged through drawers, cabinets, and closets, stealing thousands of dollars worth of items, including clothing, jewelry, and shoes.
At one point, she told police she was thrown to the ground and pinned with a boot pressed against her ankle and neck.
“[The nanny] began to scream, so they got her up and pinned her against a wall, the shorter one holding her mouth shut,” the report stated. “At this point, [the nanny] tried to kick the shorter one in the groin, but was unable to, so she bit onto his hand hard, causing him to let go. [She] then fled through the bathroom and out of the house. [She] knocked on numerous residences before someone opened the door and allowed her inside to call the police.”
When police arrived, they found “obvious signs of disarray” and safely removed the children from the home. Thankfully, none of the kids were harmed. Several family members arrived to take custody of the children for the night.
Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the break-in, and it remains unclear whether Macklemore or Tricia were at home when the incident occurred.
For now, the family is recovering from what was likely a deeply traumatic experience. And while the rapper is often in the public eye, this frightening event serves as a stark reminder that fame doesn’t shield anyone from danger.
