2020 has been a rough year for many of us – and Riverdale’s Madeleine Petsch is opening up about how the past year has affected her mental health.

Early last year, Madeleine Petsch and Travis Mills ended their nearly-three-year relationship. Soon after, the pandemic hit – and it all took a toll on her.

“My mental health was at an all-time low,” she told Flaunt magazine in a recent interview. “Every day was definitely a challenge and therapy was absolutely key for me to keep sane.”

Madeleine also shares what helped her get through those low moments.

“My best friend moved in with me and that was a huge game changer for my mental health,” she shared. “I found ways to be creative while staying positive and reading books. I read this book called ‘Vibrate Higher Daily,’ and it’s basically about how to radiate positivity. And I found more books to help me navigate.”

Thankfully, she was able to improve the state of her mental health, but admits it still took a while to arrive at that place. She also reflected on how not being able to work affected how she viewed herself.

“It really took me probably five months through this whole pandemic to get back to an okay mental state,” she said. “I had a lot of anxiety over quarantine, and I felt like without my job and without Riverdale, I didn’t know what my identity was. I’m saying this because I don’t want anyone to feel like they’re alone. I’m in the same boat and I feel it, and I’m right there with them.”

Besides having her bestie around, Madeleine practiced meditation, checked in with friends, talked to her mom and read a lot to help her through it. She also kept up with “The Five Minute Journal” to help her focus on the positive.
