Mandy Moore is standing up for her family and herself in the wake of online backlash.
The This Is Us star, 40, recently shared a fundraiser on Instagram to support her in-laws, who tragically lost their home in the devastating Los Angeles fires. While the fundraiser aimed to offer a way for others to help, it also sparked criticism, with some questioning why Mandy was turning to the public instead of supporting her family herself.
Not one to stay silent, Mandy responded with a candid message addressing the critics.
“People questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic,” she wrote in her Instagram Stories.
Mandy explained that the fundraiser was initiated by a friend of the family, and she was simply sharing it because others had asked how they could contribute. “Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe, and I’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them,” she clarified.
The actress, who has always been open with her fans, didn’t hold back her frustration, adding, “We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”
Mandy also revealed she’s been grappling with her own feelings of “survivor’s guilt” after her own home was spared while her in-laws’ was destroyed. Her honesty highlighted the emotional toll the fires have taken on her and her family.
The Los Angeles fires have caused immense destruction, leaving many families displaced and grieving.
