For a while, Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams were one of the hottest couples in the music scene. The two were both immensely talented, and seemed to be a perfect match.
But behind the scenes, things weren’t going so smoothly. And in 2016, they divorced after around seven years of marriage (they got married in 2009).
Now, Mandy candidly reveals what led to that headline-making split.
In her cover feature for Glamour’s Novermber issue, she shared that the year they tied the knot, her family was going through a challenging time – Mandy had just found out that her mom was leaving her dad for a woman, after 30 years of marriage:
“I couldn’t control what happened to my immediate family, but I could control starting my own. Not the smartest decision.
I didn’t choose the right person.”
That feeling of not having chosen the right person made Mandy “spiritually and fundamentally stuck.” This led to even more challenges, in both her personal and professional lives:
“I don’t feel guilty for it. I don’t fault myself for it. When people said, ‘I’m sorry,’ I was like, ‘No. Sorry would have been had I stayed in a very unhealthy situation.’ I didn’t.
I found my way out. And when I did, things opened back up again.”
Mandy also opened up about her current relationship with musician Taylor Goldsmith, with whom she is now engaged to [she and Taylor met in 2015 through Instagram]:
“I was still dealing with the trauma of my divorce when we started dating. Taylor was steadfast in his support—that was a huge sign for me.
He makes me melt. I can imagine no better partner. He’s going to be the most tremendous father… Maybe it’s true [about the biological clock], but f**k that narrative.”
She then revealed their desire to adopt a child:
“So that will be a part of our lives, God willing.”
