Mariah Carey is clapping back at rumors that she and Jay-Z are beefing.
Mimi and Jay recently parted ways professionally – and her career move has sparked rumors that things didn’t end well between them after she left his management company Roc Nation three-and-a-half years since signing on.
According to a report from The Sun, the “Heartbreaker” singer allegedly had an “explosive meeting” with Jay, which supposedly ended in a “blazing row” and her leaving the company.
But on Monday (June 7), Mimi went on social media to set the record straight.
“The only ‘explosive’ situation I’d ever ‘get into’ with Hov is a creative tangent, such as our #1 song ‘Heartbreaker’!!” she wrote on her socials with a 45-second snippet of their music video. “To the people who make up these lies I say ‘Poof! –Vamoose, sonofa*****’!'” Mariah tweeted, alongside a 45-second clip of their hit 1999 collab “Heartbreaker.”
Jay-Z, a.k.a. J-Hova, which earned him the nickname Hov, and Mimi have actually collaborated several times over the years – her vocals are on Jay-Z’s “Things That U Do”; Jay-Z and Freeway are on her 2002 track “You Got Me”; and he also hopped on the official remix of her 2005 hit “Shake It Off.”
However, it wasn’t till 2017 that Mariah signed on with Roc Nation – after firing her former manager Stella Bulochnikov. While with the company, she released her 30th anniversary album The Rarities, her best-selling memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, and her AppleTV+ Christmas special Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special.
The move is reportedly Mimi trying something new – like getting in more personal time with her team. According to TMZ, “she simply felt it was time to pare down to a more intimate team.” And it’s something that Mimi and Jay have reportedly decided on months ago.
Per Deadline, Mariah has signed with Range Media Partners, whose clients also include big names in TV and Film like Anna Kendrick, Bradley Cooper, Naomi Ackie, Michael Bay, Emilia Clarke, Johnny Depp, Taron Egerton, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy and Keira Knightley.
However, she’ll still be working with someone familiar – Melissa Ruderman, who was her manager at Roc Nation. Apparently, Melissa left Roc earlier this year to join Range Media as a partner in the music division.
