Love is in the air for Matty Healy, the charismatic frontman of The 1975, as he officially announced his engagement to model Gabbriette Bechtel. The 35-year-old rocker and his 26-year-old beau shared their joyous news during Charli XCX’s electrifying Brat show in Brooklyn on Tuesday night (June 12).
Gabbriette Bechtel couldn’t contain her excitement, promptly taking to Instagram to share the big reveal with fans: “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT,” she captioned a snapshot proudly displaying her new engagement ring.
Speculation had been swirling for weeks after eagle-eyed fans spotted Gabbriette sporting a dazzling ring on her left ring finger back in May. The confirmation came not long after from Matty’s own mother during an appearance on the UK’s Loose Women the following day.
“I have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged … They went over to see their friends Charli and [1975 drummer George Daniel] in New York and I woke up this morning to the fact they’ve put it on Instagram. Instagram official…he’s got engaged to Gabriella Bechtel — Gabbriette she’s known as. Black diamond; he had it made for her. I couldn’t be more thrilled. We couldn’t be happier — she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law. I’m thrilled,” Matty’s mom joyfully exclaimed.
The couple’s romance first blossomed publicly in September, capturing attention with their affectionate displays around New York City. From cozy moments at crosswalks to passionate embraces in restaurants, Matty and Gabbriette’s love story has been a whirlwind of adoration and companionship.
Prior to his relationship with Gabbriette, Matty Healy’s dating history included a high-profile stint with pop sensation Taylor Swift, although their paths diverged in June.
Fans of fashion may recognize Gabbriette from her appearance in Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show last year, where her elegance and poise on the runway left a lasting impression.
