Matty Healy seems to be addressing his breakup with Taylor Swift.
It was revealed on Monday (June 5) that the 34-year-old The 1975 singer and the 33-year-old music titan have split up. They were rumored to have been dating for just over one month.
Soon after the breakup made headlines, The 1975 hit the stage for a show. During the concert, Matty shared some comments that seemed to refer to his split from Taylor.
While onstage, Matty took a moment to share his appreciation for all the fans supporting him after he saw many of those in the crowd holding up signs that expressed their love for him.
Matty said:
“My friend had some very, very beautiful signs that said, ‘You are loved.’
That was very, very kind of you.”
He began to say something else, but stopped himself:
“I’m sure that’s alluding to…”
He then went on to say:
“As you’re aware, I’m not very online at the moment and I’m sure people have just been calling me c—t relentlessly.
I’ve not been online, but what I have been with is my boys. And honestly, as much as I appreciate that, it’s so beautiful, and I thank you. But I don’t need it, because I’ve got them.”
A few days later, Matty did something else that many fans think may be a message either to Taylor or to the fans.
While opening for his own band at their show in Dublin following a last-minute cancellation of their opening act, he spray-painted one simple word on the white blanket set up behind him:
“SORRY”
