Meghan Markle is making it clear—she’s all about her new name.
The former Suits actress playfully corrected Mindy Kaling while appearing on her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, when the comedian kept referring to her by her maiden name.
“It’s so funny too that you keep saying Meghan Markle,” Meghan quipped in a clip from episode two. “You know I’m Sussex now.”
She and Prince Harry were granted the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex by the late Queen Elizabeth II when they married in 2018. Since then, the couple has embraced Sussex as their official last name—similar to how Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children now use Wales.
For Meghan, the significance of her name change became more apparent after having children.
“You have kids and you go, ‘No, I should share my name with my children,'” she explained. “I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is our family name, our little family name.’”
The name Sussex also holds sentimental value for the couple.
“As the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’” Meghan shared in an interview with People. “A huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex. It means a lot to me.”
