Miley Cyrus is getting real about her hit song, “Flowers.”

The 30-year-old singer-songwriter opened up about her personal and professional life in a new interview with British Vogue. During the conversation, Miley touched on the speculations surrounding her big hit which definitely made a big impression on listeners this year.

She addressed the speculation that “Flowers” is about her ex husband Liam Hemsworth — and that the music video for the song featured her donning his old tux. She stated that she has no time for any of this, adding:

“I never need to be a master at the craft of tricking an audience.

It will set itself on fire all by itself.”

Miley spoke about what the song was originally about:

“I wrote it in a really different way. The chorus was originally: ‘I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand, but I can’t love me better than you can.’ It used to be more, like, 1950s. The saddest song. Like: ‘Sure. I can be my own lover, but you’re so much better’… The song is a little fake it till you make it, which I’m a big fan of.”
