Miley Cyrus’ new era of music is officially here. And it all began with the unveiling of her brand-new track, “Flowers.”
The 30-year-old superstar kicked off her Endless Summer Vacation era with a striking breakup anthem that may or may not have been intentionally released on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s birthday.
Miley released the track and the accompanying music divide on Thursday (January 12).
Although not officially confirmed, numerous fans think that “Flowers” is about Liam. Check out some of the evidence that her new song is indeed about her ex:
“Built a home and watched it burn.”
Miley and Liam’s Malibu home burned down in November 2018 during the Woolsey fires.
The song’s chorus mirrors “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars
It is widely believed by fans that Liam once dedicated the Bruno Mars track to Miley.
“Write my name in the sand.”
In her 2019 breakup song “Slide Away” which many fans think is about Liam, Miley sings that her ex can slide away “back to the ocean” as she goes “back to the city lights.”
In “Flowers” she makes another beach-related reference.
Miley and Liam met on the set of The Last Song. They dated and got engaged, only to split up around the start of Miley’s Bangers era. The two got back together years later, getting married in 2018.
Less than a year after they tied the knot, Liam filed for divorce. Miley and Liam’s divorce was finalized in 2020.

[Verse 1]
We were good, we were gold
Kinda dream that can’t be sold
We were right ’til we weren’t
Built a home and watched it burn
[Pre-Chorus]
Mmm, I didn’t wanna leave you, I didn’t wanna lie
Started to cry, but then remembered I
[Chorus]
I can buy myself flowers
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours
Say things you don’t understand
I can take myself dancing
And I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than you can
[Post-Chorus]
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
[Verse 2]
Paint my nails cherry-red
Match the roses that you left
No remorse, no regret
I forgive every word you said
[Pre-Chorus]
Ooh, I didn’t wanna leave you, baby, I didn’t wanna fight
Started to cry, but then remembered I
[Chorus]
I can buy myself flowers
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours, yeah
Say things you don’t understand
I can take myself dancing, yeah
I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than you can
[Post-Chorus]
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I (Ooh, I)
[Bridge]
I didn’t wanna leave you, I didn’t wanna fight
