Miley Cyrus is reflecting on her “very public divorce” with Liam Hemsworth – and her own personal emotional growth.
On Wednesday (September 2), the “Midnight Sky” singer guested on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast and opened up about split with Liam.
Citing the example of how she “just went through a very public divorce that f–king sucked,” she shared that, “What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore, that’s OK. I can accept that. I can’t accept the villainizing and all those stories [in the press].”
Miley and Liam dated on and off for over 10 years (since they co-starred on The Last Song). They first got engaged in 2012, but called it off in 2013. The two rekindled their romance several years later, eventually tying the knot in December of 2018. However, the couple again called it quits, announcing their separation in August last year after only eight months of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in January of this year.
She also talked about how sensationalized their split became – especially after she and Kaitlynn were photographed vacationing together in Italy in August.
“It’s amazing to me that the public kind of thinks that there’s no gap of time that they didn’t see that could possibly be what lead to this,” Miley said. “Like, [they think] ‘one day you were happy on the carpet and then next day you’re making out with your friend in Italy. What the f**k?’ Well there’s a lot of time in between that you didn’t see.”
However, their split made her realize some of the emotional growth she has experienced. “I feel that I worry sometimes that I can get over things easily,” Miley shared. “I don’t fall to the floor and crawl up in a ball the way I used to, and I think that’s a part of me growing up.”
Following her split with Kaitlynn, Miley went on to date Cody Simpson for almost a year – they broke up last month. And chances of Miley getting back together with an ex seems to be slim.
“I think men in my life have told me I’m cold, I’m a cold f–king bitch, because I leave when things are done,” she explained. “I’m into a lot of freaky things, but I don’t f–k dead guys and when it’s over, you’re dead to me and I move on.”
As for what she’s looking for in her next relationship, “I want the soul connection,” Miley revealed.
“I don’t need a man or a woman that’s gonna take care of me, I can take care of me. I need them to be able to take care of them,” she continued, adding. “I don’t need to be in a relationship at all.”
