Last month, Miley Cyrus opened up about her new healthier lifestyle – she’s “sober sober.”

In an interview with Variety’s Big Ticket podcast, Miley shared, “It’s really hard [being sober] because, especially being young, there’s that stigma of ‘You’re no fun.’ It’s like, ‘Honey, you can call me a lot of things, but I know that I’m fun.’ But the thing that I love about it is waking up 100 percent, 100 percent of the time. I don’t want to wake up feeling groggy. I want to wake up feeling ready.”

“There are a lot of challenges when you wake up. We’re being asked to be this active, and this focused, and this on, and we’re going to be making these big changes we want to see,” she continued. “I don’t want to wake up feeling groggy. I want to wake up feeling ready.”

What started as something she needed to do – in preparation for her vocal chord surgery last November – became something she fully embraced. And reflecting on her family’s history in therapy, she now views the initial push toward sobriety as “the biggest blessing.”

“I’d been thinking a lot about my mother. My mom was adopted, and so a lot of the feelings that she had and inheriting some of that, kind of an abandonment feeling and a feeling of wanting to prove that you’re wanted and valuable. [My dad’s] parents divorced when he was three, and so my dad kind of raised himself,” she said, referring to her parents, Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus. “I did a lot of family history, which has a lot of kind of addiction and kind of mental health challenges.”

And she came into this realization: “So just going through that and saying, ‘Why am I the way that I am?’ By understanding the past, we understand the present and the future much more clearly. So I think therapy is great.”

And it looks like boyfriend Cody Simpson has played a huge in Miley’s journey to sobriety – their goals are pretty much aligned.

“It’s been really important for me over the last year living a sober lifestyle,” Miley, who’s preparing to release her seventh studio album, She Is Miley Cyrus, told Big Ticket’s Marc Malkin, “because I really wanted to polish up my craft.”

Cody revealed that had stopped drinking before his run on Masked Singer Australia last year on The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

“I actually stopped drinking the day I started filming The Masked Singer,” he explained on the Australian radio show. “Everything since then for me has just been going great, so I kind of owe it all to just being really efficient and sharp.”

“I wasn’t, like, an alcoholic,” he explained. “I would go out and party, but it wasn’t crazy. It was just enough that I would occasionally feel like it was affecting my productivity which, I just hate that feeling.”

And he says he has no intention of picking the bottle back up. “As long as it feels good, I will [stay sober],” he vowed. He also adds that Miley “doesn’t have plans either to touch it again.”

According to an E! News source, Miley and Cody are writing quite the love story together.

“Miley and Cody are doing great together. Its a very stable relationship and they complement each other well. Miley feels very secure with Cody and really trusts him. He treats her well and makes her feel like a million bucks,” the source said.

And, they’re really getting into their healthier lifestyle. “He supports Miley’s sobriety and the lifestyle they have created together,” the source added.
