Minka Kelly is opening up about her ex, Taylor Kitsch.
In her brand new memoir “Tell Me Everything,” which hits stores May 2, the 42-year-old actress spoke candidly about her relationship with Taylor, who she co-starred with on Friday Night Lights.
A whole chapter of the book, titled “Cancer,” has Minka going into detail about Taylor. The two starred together on Friday Nights Lights which ran for five seasons beginning in 2006. She wrote that she and Taylor broke up and got back together “more times than [she] [could] count” during their time together on set.
She explained why she did not have female friendships on set, referring to her relationship with Taylor as “toxic” as she said:
“All the effort I might have invested in connecting consistently with the girls on the show went to Taylor. So when my relationship with Taylor became toxic, I had no one to turn to.”
Minka and Taylor were together on the show as well, and she spoke about how their off-screen breakups would impact the show:
“Life became very difficult both on and off set whenever we broke up. We were young and had very few tools to handle our emotions and personal grievances. On the days we had to work together and were broken up, he didn’t want to be in the hair and makeup trailer at the same time I was.
We couldn’t ride in the van together from base camp to set for the same reason. On those days, the tension on set was high and everyone felt the awkwardness.”
She also spoke about who the cast seemingly sided with, stating:
“I’d show up to work with a smile on my face thinking I was being professional, while everyone else felt sorry for the guy whose heart had just been broken. My co-workers weren’t taking me out for drinks after work to mend my broken heart, they were taking him out.”
Minka credits the end of their relationship to the two of them being “very young and very sensitive,’ and shared the lesson she learned from their time together:
“Vulnerability begets connection, as evidenced by the outcome of both our coping mechanisms. My tough-guy approach only left me alone. If you behave as if you need no one, if no one around you knows any better, most certainly, no one will, in fact, be there.”
