Nicki Minaj wants to know why “Super Freaky Girl” is out of the rap categories at the Grammys — and she is not keeping quiet about her discontent.
The Recording Academy chose to move Nicki’s chart topper into the pop categories on Thursday (October 13). The song is now expend to be a contender for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
Nicki took to social media to respond to the news and voice out her thoughts on the Recording Academy’s decision. In a series of tweets, she said that she would like to see a “more street record win” in the rap categories. BUT, she also pointed out that the Grammys should treat Latto’s Big Energy the same as Super Freaky Girl:
“I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long s we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy.
ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll.”
As to anyone who might say she is overreacting, Nicki had this to say:
“Could you imagine someone telling you not to ‘complain’ about being treated unfairly at your workplace? This is my job. I work very hard.”
She also responded to the Recording Academy’s decision on Instagram Live, declaring:
“They stay moving the goal post when it comes to me because in order for them to uplift the people who they want to shine, the people who these corporate giants can make the money off of–the people who control a lot of things behind the scenes–they have to elevate someone that they profit off of.
So they must move the goal post for me all the time.”
