Nicki Minaj recently delivered some surprising news to her fans regarding the much-anticipated deluxe edition of her latest album, Pink Friday 2. However, the 41-year-old rapper didn’t leave her loyal fanbase hanging for long, as she revealed that something even more exciting is on the horizon – a brand new album.
On Sunday (September 15), Nicki took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to explain her decision to scrap the deluxe edition of Pink Friday 2. The announcement was met with a mix of disappointment and excitement, as the rapper assured her fans that this was all part of a bigger, more exciting plan.
“Instead of doing a DELUXE to Pink Friday 2, I’ve decided to do a brand new album,” she shared in her post. “I’ll still incorporate new songs like #Mamita & [The ‘anxiety’ song] for the remainder of the tour tho…and I’ll announce the new date within the next couple weeks. The new music is just too good to be thrown away on a deluxe album.”
In her post, Nicki elaborated on how these new recordings felt too iconic to be sidelined: “Last night, the songs I recorded were just way too iconic. I love you guys so much. You know that. I know you do. I’ll still give you something leading up to the announcement, so no worries.”
While fans may have been expecting a deluxe edition, it looks like they’ll be getting an entirely new album, which Nicki is already calling PF3. The excitement was palpable as she hinted at what’s to come, writing, “🎀 PF3 is about to do PRECISELY wtf BEEN needed to be done. TRUST ME BARBZ. IM SO EXCITED. BLESSED. LOVED (by the Barbz) & fortunately (for the Barbz & me), I’ve learned A LOT since 12/08/23.”
Nicki also took a moment to reflect on why she’s decided to preserve Pink Friday 2 as it is, without adding more tracks. The album holds significant meaning for her, not only because of its success but because it’s her first album since becoming a mother to her son, affectionately known as Papa Bear.
“PF2 means so much to me. As my 1st album as #PapaBear mama, it’s just very special to me for so many reasons you guys aren’t aware of. I put every song on there in a specific order, etc. So to honor that, I’m going to give it the respect & integrity it deserves as a beautiful body of work & not add anything else to it,” she wrote. “1 or 2 songs is no big deal but 5-7 songs feels a little sloppy right now (In my humble opinion). This era has just been so successful, rewarding, satisfying, etc. after much thought, I want to be for CERTAIN that I am being intentional about every single decision being made around both PF2 AND PF3.”
Nicki Minaj’s dedication to her craft and her fans is evident in her decision to create an entirely new album rather than release a deluxe version. For her, it’s all about maintaining the integrity of her work and giving her fans something truly special. While Pink Friday 2 will remain untouched, fans can look forward to an exciting new era with PF3 on the way. And if Nicki’s hints are anything to go by, it’s going to be iconic.
