There’s no question about it: 2021 was the year of Olivia Rodrigo. And she’s capping off a stellar year with a stellar recognition: Billboard’s Woman of The Year.
On Friday (February 4), it was announced that the 18-year-old singer and actress will be honored with Billboard’s Woman Of The Year award at the upcoming Billboard’s Women In Music Awards. The talented artist is being given the prestigious honor following the epic year that she just had, to add to her already long list of achievements and awards.
In a statement, Billboard’s Editorial Director Hannah Karp said:
“Olivia’s trajectory to superstardom is the stuff of pop music legend. Her talents as a storyteller and songwriter have made Olivia one of the most authentic and exciting new artists to explode onto the scene in years.
Connecting with audiences across generations through emotionally charged songs about heartbreak, jealousy and growing up, she’s achieved absolutely incredible chart success for a debut artist.
We are thrilled to celebrate her unique voice and the enormous impact she’s had on fans around the globe in such a short time.”
Olivia is following in her idol Taylor Swift’s footsteps. Back in 2012, Taylor received the Woman Of The Year honor.
Other honorees for the year include Phoebe Bridgers with the Trailblazer Awards, Summer Walker with the Chartbreaker Award, Gabby Barrett with the Rising Star Award, Saweetie with the Game Changer Award, Karol G with the Rule Breaker Award, Doja Cat with the Powerhouse Award, and Bonnie Raitt with the Icon Award.
The Billboard Women In Music event will be held on March 2, 2022 at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in California.
