Pop fans, rejoice! It looks like Norwegian duo M2M is making a comeback, more than two decades after their breakup. Marit Larsen and Marion Ravn, the voices behind early 2000s hits like “Don’t Say You Love Me” and “Mirror Mirror,” have sent fans into a frenzy by teasing a reunion after 20 years apart.
In an Instagram post that shocked longtime listeners, the duo shared a heartwarming acoustic version of their hit song “The Day You Went Away.” The performance wasn’t just any casual jam session—Marit and Marion made sure to include a specific lyric from the song: “I remember, date and time / September 22nd Sunday twenty-five after nine.” The kicker? They posted the video at exactly 9:25 a.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2024, marking the precise time referenced in the track.
With the caption, “Let’s give this story a better ending,” it seems the duo is ready to pick up where they left off, much to the delight of their loyal fanbase. While they haven’t officially confirmed any plans for a full-fledged reunion, their timing, the new Instagram page, and the launch of an official website with a sign-up option for fans all hint that something big is in the works.
For those who need a refresher, M2M first burst onto the pop scene in 2000 with their debut album Shades of Purple. The duo had already gained international attention thanks to their song “Don’t Say You Love Me,” which featured in the closing credits of Pokémon: The First Movie. The song was chosen as the lead single from the film’s soundtrack, catapulting Marit and Marion to stardom.
The success of their debut was undeniable, selling over 1.5 million units worldwide. M2M quickly became known for their catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, but their second album, The Big Room, released in 2001, didn’t reach the same commercial heights. Not long after, the pair decided to go their separate ways and pursue solo careers. They released a greatest hits collection titled The Day You Went Away: The Best of M2M in 2003.
Post-M2M, both Marit and Marion have had successful solo careers. Marion Ravn released her debut solo album, Here I Am, in 2005, showcasing her powerful vocals and evolving her sound into rock. Marit Larsen followed with her debut Under the Surface in 2006, opting for a more folk-pop vibe. Both artists have continued to release music and tour, proving that they could stand on their own two feet.
Now, 20 years later, it seems like the stars have aligned for M2M fans. While details remain under wraps, the excitement is undeniable. Whether it’s a one-time nostalgia trip or the start of a new chapter, one thing’s for sure: the world is more than ready for M2M’s return.
