On Sunday (March 7), Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an explosive interview that got everyone buzzing. The couple talked about their experience as royals – everything from “feeling trapped,” their personal struggles with mental health, to the status of Harry’s relationship with his brother, Prince William, as well as claimed that there were “concerns and conversations” some members of the Royal Family had surrounding Archie’s skin color.

During the interview, Meghan gave Oprah a second-hand account of the alleged racist comments.

“In those months, when I was pregnant, all around this same time, we had in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he won’t be given a title…and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin will be when he’s born,” said Meghan. “That was relayed to me from Harry, that was from conversations that family had with him. It was really hard to see those as compartmentalized conversations.”

She also said that it would be “damaging” to name the person who made the comment.

Harry later confirmed to Oprah that the conversation took place, but refused to elaborate.

“That conversation, I’m never going to share. But at the time, it was awkward. I was a bit shocked,” he said. “That was right at the beginning… ‘What will the kids look like?'”

In Monday’s (March 8) episode of CBS This Morning, Oprah revealed that Harry had told her that it wasn’t his grandmother, the queen, or his grandfather, Prince Philip who made those remarks.

Two days after the interview aired, Queen Elizabeth has broken her silence to address Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview. On Tuesday (March 9), Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of the queen.

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the statement reads. “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.”

“While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately,” the statement continues. “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Meanwhile, Beyonce has sent a message of support for Meghan following the interview.

On Tuesday (March 9), Bey shared a photo of her and Meghan meeting during the Lion King premiere in London in 2019 on her website, along with the message: “Thank you Meghan for your courage and leadership. We are all strengthened and inspired by you.”
