For the first time, Quinta Brunson is opening up about her divorce.

The 35-year-old Abbott Elementary creator and Emmy-winning star filed for divorce from husband Kevin Anik back in March, following three and a half years of marriage. But until now, she hadn’t publicly addressed it—despite headlines suggesting otherwise.

In a new interview with Bustle, Quinta set the record straight. “I remember seeing people be like, ‘She announced her divorce,’” she said. “I didn’t announce anything.”

Quinta pushed back on the assumption that celebrities are always eager to share every detail of their private lives. “I think people have this idea that people in the public eye want the public to know their every move,” she explained. “None of us do. I promise you. No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life. It’s just that that’s public record information.”

The interviewer then mentioned having seen a headline about Quinta buying a new house in 2023. Quinta didn’t hold back: “I hated that,” she said. “I hate all of it.”

Despite her frustration, she acknowledged the reality of fame. “I love my fans, I love the people who watch Abbott,” she said. “But when it comes to matters of your personal life, you do have to tune it out.”

“Those are invisible voices that aren’t in your home with you, that aren’t in your personal life, that aren’t your friends,” she added.
