Rachel Bilson is setting the record straight on a comment that she made about her ex, Bill Hader.

The 41-year-old The OC actress and 44-year-old Barry star dated back in 2020 and broke up months after. In an episode of her Broad Ideas podcast this June, Rachel confirmed her relationship with Bill to guest Aubrey Plaza. She was also quoted as saying that her and Bill’s breakup was “probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done harder than childbirth.”

Her statement quickly became viral — and now, she is clarifying what she really meant when she made it.

In a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Rachel explained to host Alex Cooper that the quote was taken out of context:

“I said, obviously, he and I, we’re not still together, so we broke up. But it was during a time where you could not leave your house.”

She shared that dealing with a breakup while in the midst of the pandemic made things a lot harder for her, saying:

“I had to deal with this. I had to deal with being alone and taking care of my kid and everything else.”

Rachel said that this is actually what she meant by what she said:

“Being isolated and not being able to connect with any humans, not being able to help myself. I got into a depression, all of these things.

That time having to be forced to face all of your sh-t I said was harder than childbirth. Is anything more painful? F-ck no. Maybe kidney stones.”
