Rachel Zegler is finally addressing the controversy surrounding her role as Snow White in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake.
Since her casting in 2021, the 23-year-old actress has faced backlash, largely due to her Colombian heritage. She also stirred controversy when she openly criticised aspects of the original 1937 Disney classic, calling the prince a “stalker.”
Now, in a new interview with Vogue Mexico, Rachel has spoken out about the reaction to her role and past comments.
“I interpret people’s feelings about this film as a passion for it. What an honour to be part of something that people feel so passionate about. We’re not always going to have the same feelings as everyone around us, and all we can do is give the best of ourselves,” she shared.
She also reassured fans that the new adaptation will respect the original while bringing a fresh perspective. “It’s very important for the public to know that Disney has found this beautiful and delicate balance between the animated classic that everyone knows and loves from 1937, and at the same time, introduces it to this new generation.”
Earlier this month, Disney released a new teaser for Snow White, giving fans a sneak peek of Rachel singing “Whistle While You Work.” With the film’s release on the horizon, only time will tell how audiences react to her take on the beloved character.
