Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle was killed in Los Angeles on Sunday (March 31). He was 33.

Nipsey, whose real name is Ermias Davidson Asghedom, was reportedly shot multiple times outside his clothing store, Marathon Clothing Company, in South L.A. He was rushed to the hospital, along with two other victims of the shooting. The Victory Lap rapper later died of his injuries, while the other two remain in critical condition.

According to Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. in the 3400 block of Slauson Avenue, NBC reports.

Nipey grew up in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles and became a member of the Rollin’ 60s gang in his teens. Later, he became a community organizer and was a part of the Destination Crenshaw project.

“Me being a human comes before me being an artist,” he told Billboard last year. “I want to affect change and I want to impact the communities that I grew up in, and the ones like it.”

Many in the entertainment industry are mourning his passing – his fans, friends and colleagues taking to social media to pay tribute to the fallen stinger.

Drake via Instagram:

“My whole energy is just at a low right now hearing this. We just linked for the first time in years and said we were gonna do a new song this summer cause it had been too long. You were having the best run and I was so happy watching from distance fam nobody ever talks down on your name you were a real one to your people and to the rest of us. I’m only doing this here cause I want the world to know I saw you as a man of respect and a don. Rest easy my g.”

Rihanna via Twitter:

“This doesn’t make any sense! My spirit is shaken by this! Dear God may His spirit Rest In Peace and May You grant divine comfort to all his loved ones! 💔🙏🏿 I’m so sorry this happened to you”

Snoop Dogg shared a throwback video of him and Nipsey trading verses on Instagram, writing, “Gone 2 soon @nipseyhussle I’m so sad right now I’ll just reflect on the good times we had.”

Pusha T via Intagram:

“Sad to see you go Nip, I’m only finding peace in knowing you are blessed. As you know, I was honored to share in such an amazing year with you musically. We spoke abt how they let the “real ones” in the building and how the Grammys “got it right” this time. I would gauge everyone’s music credibility based on if they mentioned you. “Don’t pair me or compare me, unless the said party is a rare breed…” – self

You definitely are a rare breed and I thank you for being genuine to me and in your mission to empower your people…Always love.”

J Cole via Twitter:

“Nipsey you a legend. I respect and admire your career path and what you did for the neighborhood. My heart broke today when I saw the news. I’m praying for your loved ones. This was sposed to be the year we got one in. God had bigger plans for you 🙏🏿”

Nas via Instagram:

“We are at a great loss today. This hurts. Straight to the point. It’s dangerous to be an MC. Dangerous to be a b-ball player. It’s dangerous to have money. Dangerous To Be A Black Man. So much hatred. We live like our brothers and sisters in third world countries live. Right in America. Decisions we make about our own life be based on decisions cuz we might not live. Its so deep rooted. It’s not a easy fix. Hard to fix anything when kids are still living in poverty.

I ain’t shutting up though, Nipsey is a True voice. He will never be silenced. He still is A stand up General for the People who never left his people. He is Loved by the people. Prayers for his family. Let’s keep pushing Truth for The Man. Love You King Nipsey Hussle/ Ermias Asghedom.”

Pharrell Williams via Twitter:

“You were about something..positive and for your community in every chance you had to speak..and because of that You inspired millions..millions who will uphold your legacy forever. rest amongst the stars. 🙏🏾”

Ludacris via Instagram:

“God just lost a Son, a son just lost his father, a family just lost their king & hip hop just lost one of their elite. One of the Greatest overall MEN I’ve ever encountered in my life. He was always Leading by example by rebuilding his community. The entire Hip hop community and the World 🌎 is Numb. 🙏🏽🙏🏽”

Michael B. Jordan via Twitter:

“Just spoke to you, always kept it 1000. Always was real. You’re a 🐐 Rest up young KING. RIP Nipsey.”

Jada Pinkett Smith via Instagram:

“Rest in Love Nipsey. I am an admirer of your wisdom which will now be part of your legacy. My heart bleeds for all those who love him. Stay strong @laurenlondon. He’s an angel on your shoulder now. ❤️”

Even the Mayor of Los Angeles had a few words to say.

Eric Garcetti via Twitter:

“Our hearts are with the loved ones of Nipsey Hussle and everyone touched by this awful tragedy. L.A. is hurt deeply each time a young life is lost to senseless gun violence. My Crisis Response Team is assisting the families coping with shock and grief.”

Rest in peace, Nipsey. You will be missed.
