Rebel Wilson is now a mom — and she is opening up about her journey to motherhood.
The 42-year-old The Almond and the Seahorse star candidly spoke about being a mother in a new interview that also touched on her fertility journey and deciding to have a baby via surrogacy. She described the experience as “amazing” and “challenging.”
Rebel revealed that after undergoing a dramatic body transformation, she one through “like three harvesting procedures.” Speaking to TODAY, she said:
“Whilst filming The Almond and the Seahorse I tried to create embryos from the eggs, and none of them survived. I’d done all of this, and I’d lost 80 pounds and I’d been healthy and done everything the doctors had said and then was feeling awesome.
And it didn’t work. Like all 18 eggs that I had, none of them worked. I was like ‘Oh my god.’”
She said she decided to try again, and this led to the birth of her daughter:
“I was like, ‘Okay. I can still try again.’ I was still young enough to try it a few more times and then luckily got my gorgeous baby girl.”
Rebel shed some light on her experience while her surrogate was giving birth. Describing it as “a comedy scene,” she stated:
“Having a baby by surrogate is a different experience because in a way [you] can feel a little bit disconnected. Even though I had this gorgeous surrogate who was so loving and so awesome to get to do this with her. But then it’s not until the baby literally popped out. It was almost like a comedy scene.
You hold the baby and cut the umbilical cord and literally from that moment on, it was just amazing and so emotional.”
She also opened up on the challenges that come with this new role and responsibility:
“It’s really challenging. I have this big international career and I’m the breadwinner of my family — I like to think. So it’s really challenging too, like, ‘Well, now how do I do all the things and be a great mother and great partner and all of that.’”
