Last year, Rebel Wilson embarked on a year-long journey to live a healthier lifestyle and ended up losing over 60 lbs. But the Pitch Perfect star recently revealed another journey she had taken that involved a “petrifying” incident – a kidnapping at gunpoint, to be exact.
The 40-year-old actress joined host Ant Middleton on Sky One’s travel show, Straight Talking, where she opened up about being kidnapped at gunpoint during her trip across Africa.
“We were on this cattle truck and these men came on another truck with a lot of guns,” she said, per The Daily Mail. “[They pulled up beside us] with the big guns and they were like, ‘Yeah, you’ve got to get off your truck.'”
She went on to share how they were taken to a house “in the middle of nowhere” and held overnight. Rebel says she wasn’t just concerned for herself, but for members of her travel group as well.
“They sat us down, and I said, ‘Everybody link arms,’ because I was petrified in the night that they might want to take one of the girls or something,'” she recalled, adding, “I felt like I was very good in the crisis. I was like a team leader.”
Thankfully, no one was hurt, and they were set free in the morning, and crossed the border
“We didn’t ask any questions,” she said. “We just got back on that truck and got out of there and crossed the South African border a few hours later.”
While it’s still unclear what the kidnapping was about, Rebel does have a theory: “I think maybe those guys, maybe, used us to smuggle illegal things in the bottom of the truck.”
Glad to hear they’re all okay. Rebel didn’t specify exactly when the kidnapping went down, but she previously shared photos from her trip to Africa on social media back in 2014.
As for her life-changing decision to make 2020 her Year Of Health, last month, Revel opened up about her motivation to fans on her Instagram Story.
“It isn’t about a number on the scale,” she said. “What I was doing was to improve my overall health and to improve my whole lifestyle to make me a happier, healthier person.”
“I’m so glad that I did it. The goal was never to be skinny,” she said. “It was never to fit into a certain dress size. I put a goal weight because I needed some tangible thing… But I am really glad that I did it because I think it was time. I’ve been overweight for about 20 years.”
