A huge honor was just bestowed upon Rihanna!

The 33-year-old singer has been given the honor of becoming her home country’s 11th-ever National Hero. She was honored as a National Hero of Barbados during an event on Monday night (November 29) in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The event also marked a major milestone for the country as it held the Presidential Inauguration  Ceremony for Dame Sandra Mason, who is Barbados’ first ever president. Queen Elizabeth was formally removed as head of state as Barbados transitioned from a Commonwealth to a republic.

Prince Charles was in attendance during the event to signify Barbados’ exit from the Commonwealth. He stated:

“The creation of this republic offers a new beginning. From the darkest days of our past and the appalling atrocity of slavery which forever stains our history, people of this island forged their path with extraordinary fortitude.”

Rihanna was honored as a National Hero by Prime Minister Mia Mottley, who is the leader of Barbados’ republican movement. The Prime Minister declared about Rihanna:

“On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we therefore present to you, the designee, for national hero of Barbados, ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty.

May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honor to your nation by your works, by your actions.”

Rihanna was present to graciously accept her new title, wearing an orange silk dress from Bottega Veneta, scrappy heels, and a black face mask.

Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation posted a video taken during the event, along with the caption:

“Congrats to our founder Robyn ‘Rihanna’ Fenty, Barbados’ newest National Hero!”

Rihanna can now add The Right Honorable before her name because she is a National Hero. She is the second woman to receive the honor in Barbados.

Congratulations, Rihanna!
