It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally got new music from Rihanna—thanks to the Smurfs.

The singer just released her latest track, “Friend of Mine,” which will feature on the soundtrack for the new Smurfs film. With its dreamy, synth-heavy vibe and instantly catchy hook, the song is already generating buzz as a potential Song of the Summer.

On the track, Rihanna sings:

“Ooh, I think the word here is ‘déjà-vu’ / Trust me here tonight, bet you’ll feel like a friend of mine / You’ll feel like a friend of mine, feel like a friend of mine.”

This marks Rihanna’s first original release since 2022’s “Lift Me Up,” which appeared on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a full-length album since Anti dropped back in 2016, and while this isn’t the full project many are still hoping for, it’s something.

Rihanna’s also not just lending her voice musically—she’s voicing Smurfette in the upcoming movie, which is set to hit theaters in July 2025. That’s right, Rihanna is going full blue and animated.

“Friend of Mine” is simple and repetitive, but in that classic Rihanna way that worms into your head instantly. The chorus is built around just a few lines that she repeats throughout the track:

“Just met you tonight, but you feel like a friend of mine / Feel like a friend of mine, feel like a friend of mine… How can so familiar be so brand new?”

Whether the new single signals more music on the horizon remains to be seen, but between voicing Smurfette and releasing fresh tracks, Rihanna’s keeping us on our toes—just the way she likes it.

[Chorus]
Ooh, I think the word here is “déjà-vu”
Just met you tonight, but you feel like a friend of mine
Feel like a friend of mine, feel like a friend of mine
Feel like a friend of mine, feel like a friend of mine
How can so familiar be so brand new?
Just met you tonight, but you feel like a friend of mine
Feel like a friend of mine, feel like a friend of mine
Like a friend of mine, feel like a friend of mine
Feel like a friend of mine, like a friend of mine
Like a friend of mine, like a friend of mine
Feel like a friend, friend, feel like a friend, friend
Feel like a friend, friend, you feel like a friend of mine
