Ruby Rose’s ‘Batwoman’ Exit Reportedly Not 100% Her Decision; Skeet Ulrich Dishes On Why He Left ‘Riverdale’

Ruby Rose’s exit as the lead of Batwoman had fans wondering as to the reason behind the decision.

Earlier this week, Ruby made a shocking announcement. “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” she said in a statement. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.”

The announcement just comes days after the CW confirmed Batwoman will be getting a second season. The network, along with Warner Bros TV. and Greg Berlanti Productions has since announced that they will be recasting the lead role for season 2, and reaffirmed their commitment to casting another LGBTQ actress for the role – Kate Kane/Batwoman is the first gay lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series.

Ruby and the show’s producers haven’t exactly shared the reasons why she’s exiting, but a source says it was a mutual decision.

“It wasn’t 100-percent her decision,” a source told TV Line. “It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit.”

Apparently, Ruby had a hard time adjusting to living in Vancouver, Canada where they film the show. And with this being her first full-time gig on a series, she was “distressed by the long hours demanded of a lead TV role.”

Some fans speculated that she might be leaving for health reasons – Ruby opened up about an injury she sustained that almost left her paralyzed back in September. But another source told Variety say the decision “had nothing to do with her health or injury.”

Meanwhile, Riverdale’s Skeet Ulrich is opening up about the real reason why he left Riverdale.

Back in February, Skeet, who plays Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) dad, FP Jones, on the show, announced that he was leaving the popular TV series.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships I’ve made on Riverdale, and I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis,” Skeet shared in a statement, per TV Line. “I’m proud to have been part of such a talented group of people, in front of the camera and behind.”

He adds, “But I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on to explore other creative opportunities.”

But in a recent Instagram Live sesh, Skeet shared the real reason behind the move: “I’m leaving Riverdale because I got bored creatively. How’s that? The most honest answer,” he said while hanging in a pool with his girlfriend.
