Demi Lovato is kicking off the new year working on new music.

After teasing an upcoming album early on in 2020, fans have been excitedly anticipating Demi’s new era. However, 2020 has come and gone, but the singer is yet to drop a studio album. Could 2021 be the year?

Demi’s last album was 2017’s Tell Me You Love Me – but she’s been quite busy dropping singles throughout 2020, including “I Love Me,” “I’m Ready” with Sam Smith, “OK Not to Be OK” with Marshmellow, “Still Have Me,” and “Commander in Chief.”

On Saturday (January 2), Demi’s manager, Scooter Braun, revealed to fans on Twitter that she’s already hitting the booth to work on her music.

“Demi is in the studio,” Scooter tweeted, along with a pair of eye emojis.

Apparently, Demi found the tweet hilarious – and she also gave fans a bit of a backstory as to why Scooter was suddenly announcing what she was up to.

She went on Instagram Stories to share:
“*PHONE RINGS – SCOOTER’S CALLING*

ME: HEY CAN’T TALK, IN THE BOOTH.

@SCOOTERBRAUN: [screenshot of Scooter’s tweet] Demi is in the studio 👀.”

The fans’ reactions, however, were a mix of excitement and frustration.

“It’s been 3 years,” one fan tweeted back.

“Give us a snippet,” another wrote.

“demi is finally coming??? im so excited for more,” one fan shared.

Back in March 2020, Demi opened up about her upcoming album to Apple Music’s New Music Daily.

“I’m actually [still] finishing up some of the album. It was gonna be done a lot earlier… and then, um, after my performances, we kinda went back to the drawing board,” she explained. “I thought, ‘What is this album missing? Am I really putting out the best work that I possibly can?’ So I’m just taking a little bit more time with it.”

2020 went on to become quite an eventful year for Demi – both personally and professionally.

But, new year, new beginnings – and hopefully new music from Demi, too. Fingers crossed she’ll kick off her new era soon.
