It’s been a tumultuous time for Sean Kingston, as the “Beautiful Girls” singer finds himself in legal hot water. The 34-year-old artist was arrested in California on Thursday (May 23), following a series of events that also led to his mother’s arrest in Florida.
Confirming the arrest, the Broward Sheriff’s Office revealed, “This evening, police in Fort Irwin, Calif., arrested Kisean Anderson, aka Sean Kingston without incident on a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest warrant for numerous fraud and theft charges.” The arrest came after a raid at a South Florida mansion, where Sean’s mother, Janice Turner, was apprehended on similar charges.
Sean, who was in California for a performance at the time of the raid, took to his Instagram Story to address the situation, reassuring his followers, “People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother!.. my lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
The raid stemmed from a lawsuit filed against Sean by Ver Ver Entertainment in February, alleging non-payment for items purchased from the company. According to the complaint, Sean made “numerous false representations” to the company, including claims of a “current and ongoing working relationship” with singer Justin Bieber, with whom he collaborated on tracks like “Eenie Meanie” and “Won’t Stop” in the past.
Ver Ver Entertainment asserts that Sean promised to produce promotional videos with Justin for the company, as part of a deal to reduce his payments for purchased items. However, they later discovered that Sean had no such ongoing relationship with Justin, leading to accusations of breach of contract.
This isn’t the first time Sean has faced legal troubles over financial matters. The lawsuit alleges that judgments were entered against him in 2015, 2016, and 2022, totaling over $1 million, for acquiring luxury watches and jewelry without payment. In one instance, Sean reportedly obtained $356,000 worth of watches without settling the bill.
As Sean navigates this legal storm, it’s clear that he’s facing significant challenges on multiple fronts. The allegations against him not only involve financial impropriety but also raise questions about his credibility and business practices.
