Selena Gomez is peeling back the curtain on her personal life and sharing some candid insights into her family plans for the future. In a recent interview for TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies issue, where her company Rare Beauty is celebrated, the 31-year-old songstress got real about her journey to finding love and the unexpected twists and turns along the way.

Reflecting on her past, Selena revealed that she had once envisioned adopting a child at a certain age if she hadn’t found a partner. “I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it,” she shared. “A lot of people are afraid of being alone, and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it. Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”

However, fate had other plans in store for Selena when she crossed paths with her now-boyfriend Benny Blanco. Recounting the moment she realized her feelings for him, Selena reminisced about a casual encounter at a birthday party where Benny introduced her to a friend. “It just happens when you least expect it,” she admitted, reflecting on the serendipity of their connection.

Benny Blanco, on the other hand, hasn’t been shy about expressing his affection and aspirations for the future with Selena. In a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, he shared his intentions of settling down and starting a family, expressing his desire to have children with Selena. “He can’t lie to save his life. If he’s asked a question, he’ll answer it,” Selena remarked about Benny’s candidness.

Despite the uncertainties of what lies ahead, Selena cherishes every moment she spends with Benny, acknowledging the depth of their bond. “I just cherish every moment with him. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere any time soon,” she affirmed, expressing her gratitude for their connection and the joy they bring into each other’s lives.
