Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers have been the subject of engagement speculations for weeks – since the Green Bay Packers QB announced the news that he “got engaged” when he was honored a the NFL’s MVP earlier this month.
He didn’t exactly drop his fiancée’s name at the time, but he and Shailene had just sparked romance rumors a week prior, so naturally, many made the connection. However, it’s all pretty much been speculation – until now.
Shailene appeared on Monday’s (February 22) episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she personally confirmed the engagement news to the host – and revealed they have been for sometime.
“Yes, we are engaged,” she told Jimmy. “For us, it’s not new news, you know? So it’s kind of funny. Everybody right now is freaking out over it and we’re like, ‘Yeah, we’ve been engaged for a while.'”
Apparently, the two of them met during the pandemic – which is also why she’s never seen her man out on the field.
“I still have never been to a football game because we met during this wacky wacky time and all the stadiums were closed that he was playing in, so I’ve yet to go to a football game,” she shared, adding that she didn’t really grow up with sports and has never even seen a football game before.
She also admitted that she doesn’t exactly know much about football nor has she ever pictured herself marrying an athlete – and revealed a very different side of Aaron from the “football guy” that many know.
“He’s, first off, just a wonderful, incredible human being. But I never thought I’d be engaged with somebody who threw balls for a living,” she continued. “Like, I never thought as a little girl, I was like, ‘Yeah, when I grow up, I’m gonna marry someone who throws balls! Yeah!’ But he’s really just so good at it.”
“I didn’t know what kind of a football guy he was and I’m still constantly learning…’Cause I don’t know him as a football guy,” she later added. “I know him as, like, the nerd who wants to host Jeopardy!. That’s the dude I know.”
Aaron very casually announced his engagement during his acceptance during 2021 NFL Honors virtual ceremony earlier this month.
“Thank you so much, it’s honor to win this award for the third time,” Aaron said. “2020 was definitely a crazy year filled with lots of change, growth, and some amazing memorable moments.”
“180 straight days of getting my nose hairs scraped, playing for very little fans or no fans in the stands the entire season,” he continued. “I got engaged and I played some of the best football of my career.”
Plus, among the people he thanked for their support was his “fiancée.”
“I played some of the best football of my career,” he said. “So I’d like to thank first and foremost my teammates for their support, inspiration, protection and incredible play on the field. The coaching staff for their efforts to make this fun every single week, the energy, the positivity and the daily presentations really kept us going. Off the field, I got a really great group of people that support me. So, I’d like to thank my team … my fiancée.”
Congratulations, Shailene and Aaron!
