It’s over for Shakira and Gerard Pique.
The 45-year-old Colombian music superstar and the 35-year-old soccer player have confirmed that they are separating.
In a joint statement issued via the Associated Press on Saturday (June 4), they wrote:
“We regret to confirm that we are separating.
For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for understanding.”
Their separation comes amidst reports that Gerard had allegedly cheated on Shakira. It is also being reported that Gerard has left the family’s home in Barcelona and is now living by himself in the city.
Rumors have it that Gerard had been seeing a 22-year-old student and hostess in Barcelone. Sources state:
“The singer has caught him with another and they are going to separate.”
Shakira and Gerard first met when she was promoting her 2010 World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa).” They are not married, but share two children together – Sasha, 7, and Milan, 9.
Following the confirmation on their split, Shakira shared a statement on social media, also on Saturday (June 4). She confirmed that she and Gerard have ended their relationship after over a decade together.
While media outlets have been suggesting that Shakira had an anxiety attack amidst her alleged relationship troubles, she clarified that the reason she was spotted in an ambulance actuall had to do with her father:
“Guys, I’m getting a lot of messages of concern that I was seen in an ambulance in Barcelona recently.
I just wanted to let you know that those photos are from last weekend (the 28th), when my dad unfortunately had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now. Please do send all your best wishes his way and thank you all as always for all of your love & support.”
