Shannon Purser is speaking her mind about Hollywood and casting in the industry.
The 24-year-old actress, best known for her role as Barb in Stranger Things season 1 as well as starring in the Netflix film Sierra Burgess Is A Loser, candidly addressed the lack of opportunities and onscreen representation for “iconic fat characters.”
Taking to Twitter, Shannon wrote:
“They’re not hiring Fat actors for iconic fat characters because they want a big name star.
There are almost no fat big name stars because fat actors aren’t allowed upward mobility. We aren’t allowed upward mobility because the industry sees us as two-dimensional set pieces.”
