Simu Liu is speaking out about an awkward moment that happened at the 2023 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game.
On Friday night (February 17), Simu played in the celebrity basketball game at Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
At a point during the game, the “Celebrity Look-A-Like Cam” scanned the audience and showed a photo of the actor with his apparent lookalike in the crowd — an Asian fan wearing glasses.
Fans quickly called out the moment, stating that the audience member looked nothing like Simu and pointing out the racism behind what happened.
After the game, the 33-year-old Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star took to Twitter to slam the NBA Lookalike Cam incident. He shared a screenshot of the lookalike moment captured by a fan, and wrote:
“I had a great time but this wasn’t cool.”
NBA has yet to respond.
