Sophie Turner, the beloved actress known for her roles in Game of Thrones and X-Men, is opening up like never before about the end of her marriage to Joe Jonas and the challenges she’s faced in the aftermath. In a candid interview with Vogue UK, Turner addresses the false rumors, the struggles of co-parenting, and her hopes for the future.

The Beginning: Meeting Joe and Moving to LA

Reflecting on her whirlwind romance with Joe Jonas, Turner recalls the surreal moment when they first connected. “Joe had just DM-ed me on Instagram. I brought my brother and all my guy friends because I didn’t know if I was maybe getting catfished. It was really surreal, like a fever dream,” she shares. Despite the initial uncertainty, their relationship blossomed, leading Turner to move from her native UK to Los Angeles to be with Jonas. “Because he was older than me, I just felt like I was really taken care of, to the point I came back home and didn’t know how to do anything for myself,” she admits.

Navigating Married Life in the Public Eye

As part of the Jonas Brothers circle, Turner found herself thrust into the spotlight, often referred to as one of the “wives” of the band members. “There was a lot of attention on the three brothers, and the wives. Well, we were always called the wives, and I hated that. It was kind of this plus-one feeling,” she confesses. Despite the challenges of living in the public eye, Turner emphasizes that Jonas never made her feel anything less than equal in their relationship.

The Surprise of Parenthood and Tough Choices

At just 24 years old, Turner discovered she was pregnant while on a retreat in Bali. Admitting it was unplanned, she describes the uncertainty and eventual decision to embrace motherhood. “When you’re in your early 20s, life is so frivolous. At that point, I really didn’t know if I wanted to be a mother, but something changed in me that day. I just knew I had to have her,” Turner reflects. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Willa, followed by a planned second child, Delphine.

Deciding to Leave America for the UK

Turner shares her reasons for wanting to raise her children in the UK, citing concerns about gun violence and women’s rights in the US. “I couldn’t fathom being a mother of one of those children knowing that this was something your country could fix, that they’d rather have rights to guns than give kids a right to life,” she says passionately. Despite the challenges of uprooting their lives, Turner is determined to provide a safer environment for her daughters.

Navigating False Headlines and Mom-Shaming

During the tumultuous period surrounding their divorce, Turner faced a barrage of false headlines and mom-shaming. “I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,” she recalls. “It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real!” Turner laments the impact of online scrutiny and the toll it took on her mental health.

Finding Support and Strength In Joe’s Ex Taylor Swift

Despite the challenges, Turner found solace in the support of friends like Taylor Swift, who offered her a safe haven during the early stages of the divorce proceedings. “Taylor was an absolute hero to me this year. I’ve never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her,” Turner says gratefully. With the help of her lawyer and a reminder of her children’s well-being, Turner found the strength to persevere through the toughest moments.

Looking to the Future with Hope and Resilience

As she navigates co-parenting with Jonas, Turner remains hopeful for the future. “I’m confident that we can figure it out. Joe is a great father to our children and that’s all that I can ask for,” she asserts. Despite the challenges of single life, Turner is embracing the opportunity to explore new relationships. “I am having fun dating. It’s very fun,” she admits. “It’s like you never really learn how to date. So it’s all very new to me.”
