Steve Harvey really didn’t want to like his daughter’s boyfriend – but now it looks like he’s hoping they’re going to be endgame.
ICYMI, Michael B. Jordan and girlfriend Lori Harvey kicked off 2021 by becoming Instagram official in January. And, if you didn’t know, Lori happens to be Steve’s daughter – he adopted her when he married her mom, Marjorie Bridges, in 2007.
On Monday’s episode of Ellen, Steve got candid about going all dad-mode on MBJ for dating his baby girl.
“I have tried not to like him. I have tried to find something wrong with him that I can dig in,” he admits. “‘Cause I got rid of all of [Lori’s past boyfriends]. All of ’em. Some of them had snuck in the back door on me and lasted a lot longer than I wanted it to.”
Try as he might though, MBJ ended up winning him over just by being “such a good guy.”
“He is one of the nicest guys,” Steve praises. “I met his father. I’ve sat up with him. We’ve talked for hours. I just can’t find nothing wrong with him.”
Not only does he approve, he’s actually “hoping this lasts.”
Oh, you know how MBJ is in such great shape? Well, Steve noticed that too – and joked that that’s the real reason he wants them continue dating.
“I can’t whoop him. Most guys I say I can jump on them and take them out, but he just looks like a real a– whooping in the making,” he quips. “I’m just hoping they make it.”
This isn’t the first time that Steve’s talked about Lori and MBJ dating.
Last month, when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Steve referenced MBJ’s uber sweet Valentine’s surprise for Lori – which involved renting out an entire aquarium for the occasion – and joked about why it might not be such a great idea in the long run.
“Good luck, homie. Because you know, Valentine’s come every year,” he said. “I don’t know if you know how this works or not, but I don’t know how you’re going to top that.”
“But good luck, partner,” he added. “I mean, it was really nice, what he did… That was a lot. That was a lot. I don’t know where you’re going from here… Michael B. Jordan, good luck, homie.”
