The Arrowverse is about to get another shake up.

The CW, Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions announced Tuesday (September 22), that Supergirl’s upcoming sixth season will be its last.

The series, which stars Melissa Benoist, first premiered in 2015 on CBS before moving to its current home, The CW in 2016, becoming the third show in the Arrowverse – along with Arrow and The Flash.

Melissa has since gone on social media with a heartfelt message following the news.

“To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless,” she wrote on Instagram. “She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful.”

“I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season,” Melissa concluded.

To those unfamiliar, Supergirl follows the story of Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Kara Danvers, who was sent to Earth from Krypton as a teenager before the planet’s destruction. The Danvers family adopted and raised her. After embracing her powers, she transformed into a superhero and became National City’s protector.

In March, Melissa announced that she and hubby Chris Wood – whom she met on the show, btw – are expecting their first child. Filming for season six will start at the end of September in Vancouver, Canada – with the show’s final 20 episodes.

Arrow ended in January of this year, after an eight-season run. Ruby Rose stepped down as the lead in Batwoman after just one season – the mantle is now being taken up by Javicia Leslie. Other shows in the Arrowverse are The Flash; DC’s Legends of Tomorrow; Black Lightning; and the forthcoming Superman & Lois spinoff past next year.
