Surprise! Constance Wu is a mom!
According to an E! News report, congratulations are in order for the Crazy Rich Asians star and her boyfriend, Ryan Kattner – they welcomed a baby girl over the summer.
“They are doing great, and they’re so excited and happy,” a source tells the outlet
No, you did not miss anything. Constance never actually publicly confirmed she was pregnant. And she’s pretty much stayed out of the public eye since the coronavirus lockdowns began in March.
Her last public appearances were way back at the beginning of the year, when she walked the red carpet the 2020 Costume Designers Guild Awards in January and the Queerties 2020 Awards Reception in February.
Constance hasn’t posted anything on social media since May either – she has actually labeled her Instagram and Twitter accounts “defunct.”
Her boyfriend, Ryan, is a Texas-born musician, composer and screenwriter. He’s part of the rock band Man Man under the stage name Honus Honus. Ryan has also lent his talents behind-the-scenes of TV show – he was credited as a music supervisor on Fox’s The Exorcist TV series.
The Hustlers actress prefers to keep details of her personal life on the DL – but has touched on the subject of relationships in past interviews.
Back in 2018, she spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the backlash she received for dating interracially.
“They make this assumption that every single one of my boyfriends has been white based on the one boyfriend they saw on my social media, the one I was dating when I started my account,” she told the outlet. “But if this anger is so large and triggered by something kind of small and not necessarily verifiable, then it’s about a deeper issue, and I or other Asian women might be the unfortunate target of it.”
“The way I try to think about it is if somebody needs to target me as part of their longer journey to figure out how they feel about themselves and their place in the world, I think that’s fine. Of course hateful things don’t feel good, but I understand.”
She also opened up about a past relationship where her partner at the time wasn’t supportive of her career choice.
“I had a boyfriend I was in love with, who wasn’t too psyched with the idea of being with an actress, because it wasn’t stable,” she told The Guardian in 2019. “He wasn’t like: ‘I don’t want to be with an actress,’ but he said: ‘I just want a partner with a stable job.’ I tried it. It didn’t work for me. And that relationship did not end up working out.”
