Taylor Lautner is standing up for his longtime friend Selena Gomez after she became the target of cruel body-shaming comments following her appearance at the 2025 SAG Awards.

The 32-year-old actress attended the prestigious awards show on Sunday (February 23), where she took the stage alongside her Only Murders in the Building castmates to accept an award. While it was a celebratory moment for Selena and her team, online critics quickly turned their attention to her appearance, sparking yet another round of unkind and unnecessary commentary about her body.

This time, some social media users accused Selena of being too thin, with speculation swirling that she had used Ozempic, a medication often discussed in relation to weight loss. The accusations came just one year after she faced the opposite criticism—being body-shamed for gaining weight at the 2024 SAG Awards.

Taylor Lautner, who has known Selena for years, wasn’t having it. The Twilight star took to his Instagram story to call out the negativity and defend his friend.

Taylor reshared a post from body positivity advocate Alex Light, which highlighted the hypocrisy in the way people have commented on Selena’s body over the past two years. The post pointed out how in 2024, Selena was mocked for gaining weight and was told she should take Ozempic. Then, at this year’s ceremony, the same critics slammed her for allegedly losing weight and taking Ozempic.

“It’s a cruel world full of hate out there. You can never please everyone nor should you have to,” Taylor wrote alongside the post. “In my experience it doesn’t make the words sting less, it just refocuses you onto what matters. And it sure isn’t the shape, color or appearance of your body. Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out.”

Taylor’s message was widely praised by fans, who appreciated his vocal support for Selena. Many pointed out how relentless and unfair the scrutiny has been, with critics continuously shifting their opinions without acknowledging the emotional toll such commentary can take. Others applauded his stance, echoing the sentiment that public figures should not have to justify or explain their body changes to anyone.

Selena has previously spoken openly about her struggles with body image and the impact of public scrutiny on her mental health. In the past, she has addressed how her lupus diagnosis and the medications she takes have caused fluctuations in her weight. Despite this, she has remained a strong advocate for self-love and body acceptance, encouraging others to focus on health and happiness rather than external opinions.
