Well well well. Looks like Taylor Swift has made a meaningful lyric change to one of her songs in the Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) album.

The 33-year-old songstress has just released the re-recording of her Speak Now album on Friday (July 7), and the rumors going around that there was going to be a lyrical change turned out to be more than just a rumor.

Her track “Better Than Revenge” featured lyrics that raised quite a few eyebrows back in the day. The lyrics were:

“She’s not a saint and she’s not what you think / She’s an actress / She’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress.”

The line about the mattress was heavily rumored to be in reference to her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas and his girlfriend back then, Camilla Belle. Many felt at the time that the lyrics were misogynistic and shaming.

Now, the lyric has been replaced and now goes:

“He was a moth to the flame / She was holding the matches.”

It garnered mixed reactions from fans, with some lamenting the change from the track they adore, and others expressing Taylor’s choice to update the message of the song.
