Taylor Swift’s got another surprise for fans.
Although the ongoing pandemic has put a pause on concerts and tours for the foreseeable future, that hasn’t stopped Taylor from finding ways to connect with fans.
On Tuesday (November 24), Tay went on Twitter with another surprise announcement: she’s got an “intimate” concert film for her latest album, Folklore – and it’s dropping in time for Thanksgiving.
Alluding to her famous lucky number, Taylor tweeted, “Well it’s 11/24 and 24-11=13 so I’ve got an announcement.”
“You haven’t seen this film before,” she added, referencing the lyrics in the song “Exile,” before going on to announce that “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions” will drop in less than 24 hours.
Just this July, Taylor also surprise-dropped her quarantine album folklore. While no one was prepared for it, that hasn’t stopped fans from showing love for the “Cardigan” songstress and her latest project.
Taylor has since made history on the charts – Folklore debuted at the top spot of the Billboard 200 albums chart AND “Cardigan” also landed the top spot on the Hot 100 song chart at the same time, making her the FIRST EVER artist to debut at number one on both charts in the same week!
Not only that, Taylor also landed 3 spots in the top 10 with her new singles within the same week – “Cardigan” at number one; “The 1” at number four; and “Exile” at number six. Apparently, Taylor is also the FIRST EVER artist to debut two songs in the top four at the same time.
The album also won her three awards at the recently concluded 2020 American Music Awards, where she took home the night’s top award – Artist of the Year – AND broke her own record for the most number of AMA wins.
Apparently, Taylor and her collaborators on folklore, which includes The National’s Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff (Bleachers) and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), finally met up for the first time in September at the Long Pond Studio in upstate New York to film the special – they had secretly recorded the album remotely. Oh, and Taylor once again flexed her directorial skills for this film. ICYMI, she made her directorial debut on the music video for “The Man.”
“It’s an album that allows you to feel your feelings, and it’s a product of isolation,” Taylor says in the trailer.
At one point, Jack remarked that he “never worked on an album like this,” and Taylor responds, “I was so glad that we did, because it turned out that everybody needed a good cry — as well as us.”
“Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions” is now streaming on Disney Plus, and the music from the special are also available on streaming services.
