The Weeknd’s smash hit “Blinding Lights” has spent the past year on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart – making history as the first single to stay in the chart’s top tier for a whopping 52 weeks!
Hailed as the Hot 100’s top hit of 2020, “Blinding Lights” entered the Hot 100’s top ten at the end of February 2020, and has pretty much stayed there since – except for two short weeks in December. But the song came back strong and, in the weeks leading up to The Weeknd’s Super Bowl performance, re-entered the chart’s top ten.
“Blinding Lights” now holds the record for spending the most time in the Hot 100’s top 10. The second spot is held by Post Malone, whose track “Circles” stayed in the zone for 39 weeks. Tied at third, each achieving a 33-week run in the top 10 are “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)” by Post Malone & Swae Lee, “Girls Like You,” Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B, and Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You.”
And, if that’s not impressive enough, “Blinding Lights” is also the only track to spend 43 weeks in the Hot 100’s top five – the most number of weeks others spent in the region is 27.
Congrats to The Weeknd!
While we’re on the subject of making chart history, shoutout to Olivia Rodrigo as well. “Driver’s License,” which is the 18-year-old actress/singer’s debut single and her first Hot 100 No. 1, is now on it’s 8th week at the top of the chart. This makes her the first sole artist whose first Hot 100 chart topper has debuted at No. 1 and stayed there for that long.
Congrats, Olivia!
