Tina Turner has sadly passed away. The music icon was 83.

The legendary performer died on Wednesday (May 24) following a long illness at her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. Her spokesperson Bernard Doherty confirmed the heartbreaking news of her passing.

In a statement, Bernard said:

“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

Tina was heralded as the Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll. She is known for dozens of truly iconic hits including “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “GoldenEye,” “The Best,” “Private Dancer,” and “Proud Mary.” She sold over 180 million records worldwide and received 12 Grammy awards, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and three Grammy Hall of Fame awards.

She was also the first Black artist and first woman to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Tins is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. The first was with Ike Turner in 1991, and the second was as a solo artist in 2021.

She first skyrocketed to fame in the late 1960s as the singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. She left her husband Ike after years of physical and emotional abuse, and then staged a phenomenal solo comeback.

A private funeral ceremony is expected for close friends and family.

Our thoughts are with Tina’s loved ones at this difficult time.

RIP to the Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll.
