Travis Scott, the 33-year-old rapper known for hits like “Highest in the Room,” found himself in legal trouble while in Paris. The artist, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, was arrested in the early morning hours of Friday, August 9, at the George V Hotel, a luxurious five-star establishment in the heart of the city.
According to French authorities, the arrest came after an alleged altercation involving Travis, his bodyguard, and a hotel security guard. The incident reportedly unfolded when a fight broke out between Travis and his bodyguard, and a security guard at the hotel attempted to intervene. This led to Travis allegedly assaulting the security guard, which prompted the police to get involved.
“I can confirm that on August 9, 2024, shortly after 5 a.m., the police were called to the Georges V Hotel and arrested the man nicknamed Travis Scott for assaulting a security guard,” the Paris prosecutor’s office shared in a statement with People. The statement continued, “The latter had himself intervened to separate the rapper from his bodyguard. The 1st judicial police district was seized of the investigation by the Paris prosecutor’s office.”
The arrest took place just hours after Travis was spotted enjoying the 2024 Olympics in Paris. On Thursday, August 8, the rapper attended Team USA’s basketball semifinal game against Serbia, showing his support for the team. The timing of the arrest added to the shock, as it came during a high-profile event like the Olympics.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Travis Scott was released from custody the following day, on Saturday, August 10. His representative swiftly issued a statement to address the situation, stating, “Travis Scott has been released with no charges.”
This isn’t the first time Travis Scott has had a run-in with the law this year. Just two months prior, in June, he was arrested in Miami for trespassing and disorderly intoxication after reportedly ignoring a warning to leave a property. The Miami incident added another layer of controversy to Travis’s already turbulent year.
