It’s the end of an era — and maybe the start of something new?
Trevor Noah has revealed that he will be leaving the famed Comedy Central late-night series The Daily Show after seven years. He took over for Jon Stewart back in 2015.
He made the announcement to the studio audience on Thursday night. No official date for his departure has been announced.
Trevor gave a special message to the viewers, sharing that on his seventh anniversary with the show:
“One of the overriding feelings I found myself experiencing throughout the night, and even today, waking up was a feeling of gratitude.
There’s so many people who make this thing come together. And I want to say thank you to the audience for an amazing seven years. It’s been wild. It’s been truly wild.”
He stated that he feels it is now time for him to depart the series:
“I’ve loved hosting the show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I have loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days.
You know, we’ve we’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together. But after seven years, I feel like it’s time.”
Comedy Central released a statement on Trevor’s forthcoming departure:
“We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we’re working together on next steps.
As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of The Daily Show as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them.”
The news of Trevor’s departure comes as he and Dua Lipa have been sparking dating rumors.
On Wednesday, he was photographed enjoying dinner with the 27-year-old pop singer. The two were even pictured embracing on their evening out together.
It is unclear at the moment if a romance is brewing between the pair, but an eyewitness told The Daily Mail:
“They were quietly sat away from everyone else at restaurant. It was clear they were into each other and sat close together throughout the meal.
They left together and walked, stopping for long embraces and on the second kiss with hugs.”
