Victoria Justice, the multi-talented actress and singer, is finally breaking her silence on the Dan Schneider allegations and the recent documentary series, Quiet On Set. As a former Nickelodeon star who rose to fame through shows like Zoey 101 and Victorious, Justice’s perspective adds an important voice to the conversation surrounding Schneider’s behavior.
In a candid cover feature interview with Marie Claire, the 31-year-old reflected on her experiences working with Schneider, shedding light on the complexities of their relationship.
“Something that was very evident in the documentary is that Dan had a very large ego, and sometimes that ego clouded his better judgment and affected the way he treated people, and there were times I felt like I was being treated unfairly,” Justice revealed, offering insight into her thoughts after watching Quiet On Set.
When asked about Dan Schneider’s acknowledgment of his past behavior and his apology, Justice didn’t shy away. “I would say I’m definitely one of the people on that list,” she admitted, acknowledging her own experiences while condemning Schneider’s actions.
However, Justice’s perspective on her relationship with Schneider is nuanced. “I’m not condoning any of his behavior. At the end of the day, my relationship with Dan is a very complex one: I met him when I was 12 years old, and he’s the person that gave me this big break,” she explained. “He completely changed my life. Most likely I wouldn’t be here where I am today if it weren’t for him, and for him seeing something in me. For that I will always be grateful.”
Acknowledging Schneider’s apology, Justice expressed hope for growth and change. “After watching his apology, I think he recognizes that he did a lot of things wrong, and I think if he could step back into a time machine, he would do a lot of things differently,” she said, highlighting the importance of accountability and reflection.
Justice’s willingness to address the complexities of her relationship with Schneider and her stance on his behavior adds depth to the ongoing conversation. Her words serve as a reminder of the impact that individuals in positions of power can have on the lives of those they work with, as well as the importance of holding accountable those who have caused harm.
