Jillian Lauren—author, mother, and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner—is facing serious legal trouble after a bizarre and frightening run-in with the LAPD this week that ended with her being shot and booked for attempted murder.
According to TMZ, the situation unfolded on Tuesday, April 8, during a police search for three suspects involved in a hit-and-run. One of those suspects allegedly ditched the vehicle, jumped over a freeway embankment, and fled into a residential neighbourhood in the Studio City area of Los Angeles. Police tracked the suspect to the backyard of a home, but what happened next took an unexpected turn.
As LAPD officers searched for the fleeing suspect, they reported that Jillian Lauren unexpectedly came out of the neighbouring home holding a gun. Authorities claim they issued multiple commands for her to drop the weapon. But, according to the LAPD, Lauren didn’t comply. They say she instead pointed the firearm at officers, prompting police to open fire. She was hit in the shoulder.
The injury was non-life-threatening, and she was able to retreat back into her home. About 30 minutes later, Lauren re-emerged—this time with another woman, reportedly her babysitter—and both had their hands raised in surrender.
She was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment before being booked on suspicion of attempted murder. Police also confirmed that they recovered a 9mm handgun from the scene.
It’s still unclear why Lauren, who was not connected to the hit-and-run case, allegedly came out armed. The LAPD has yet to provide a full explanation, and Lauren’s legal team hasn’t made a public statement. The case is ongoing, and more details are expected as the investigation continues.
The news comes at a particularly high-profile time for her husband, Scott Shriner, who is gearing up to perform with Weezer at Coachella. The band was recently added to the lineup as a last-minute replacement after another act dropped out. It’s not yet known how this incident might affect his appearance at the festival—or how the family is navigating the fallout.
