Jennifer Lawrence did something she previously said she would never do – join social media.
The actress is now officially on Twitter – her handle is @JLawrence_RepUs – and it’s for a good cause. It appears the account was created so JLaw, who has a position on the board of Represent Us, could show her support for the organization.
She marked her first-ever public tweet by sharing a video of Omar Epps discussing the high percentage of Black men in prison in the U.S.
“Nearly 1 in 4 Black men in America will be locked up at some point in their life. In this short video,
@omarepps & @desmondmeade explain how corruption has broken our criminal justice system—& what we can do to fix it,” she wrote alongside the video, and shared a link to the organization’s website.
She also shared a personal statement calling for justice for Breonna Taylor.
So far, she’s only posted two tweets.
Back in 2014, JLaw opened up about her reservations on joining social media platforms.
“I will never get Twitter,” Jennifer said on Nick Grimshaw‘s BBC 1 radio show. “I’m not very good on phone or technology.I cannot really keep up with emails so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me.”
In 2018, however, she admitted to she does have a private social media account.
“I’m on it. But I’m a voyeur: I watch, I don’t speak,” she told InStyle at the time. “There is always so much backlash. So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything. I really don’t want to welcome that unless it’s absolutely necessary. I don’t want to put myself out there for no reason. Unless I’m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won’t hear from me.”
Her new Twitter account is her first public account on social media.
