Doja Cat is setting the record straight about her professional elationship with Dr. Luke.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the Planet Hair performer got candid about Dr. Luke, who was the one who produced her track “Say So” and her collab with Saweetie, “Best Friend.”
Back in 2014, the controversial music producer had been accused of mental and physical abuse by Kesha. In 2016, she dropped the case, after which Dr. Luke then countersued her, arguing that her allegations were defamatory.
Doja had this to say about working with Dr. Luke:
“It’s whatever, I don’t think I need to work with him again. I don’t think I need to work with him in the future. I know that.
I think it was definitely nice of me to work with him.”
She initially demurred when she was asked about collaborating with him in the future, declaring that she didn’t “feel really comfortable answering”:
“I haven’t worked with him in a very long time. A lot of those songs were… There’s s— that he’s credited for, where I’m like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know, I don’t know if you did anything on that.’”
And when asked to reveal the tracks she felt that Dr’ Luke was unduly credited for, she said:
“[It] didn’t matter… He’s gotten some credit for sh—.”
Following the release of the interview, Doja clarified some things she said at the time. Via an email through her representative, she said:
“I wanted to clarify something that I had been thinking about since the interview. When asked about Luke I may have said something that someone could interpret as me saying that he had taken credit on things he didn’t deserve to. I just want to be clear that I have no firsthand knowledge of that being the case and I don’t want to participate in the rumor mill. The credits on my music are accurate, and I don’t want to imply anything else.”
