Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin is hitting theaters in May and one of the biggest questions everybody was asking was what would Will Smith’s genie look like?

The blue Genie from the animated classic is one of the film’s iconic characters and Will will be taking on the role in the Guy Ritchie directed live-action adaptation, alongside Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Mena Massoud as Aladdin.

He shared a first look of his Genie on the cover of Entertainment Weekly on his Instagram back in December. But while the actor was rocking the top-knot and the bold goatee, and wearing an elaborate blue and gold costume, he was most definitely not blue in the photo, but was quick to reassure fans that he would be in the film.

“BAM!! First look at the Genie 🧞‍♂️, Princess Jasmine, and #Aladdin! Check Me Rockin’ the Top Knot Ponytail Vibes in @entertainmentweekly 😆 (and yes, I’m gonna be BLUE! 🙂 This is how the Genie is in Human / Disguise Form. My character will be CGI most of the movie.)” he wrote in the caption.

On Sunday, Aladdin dropped a new trailer during the GRAMMYs and finally gave us our first look at the Will’s blue genie. And Twitter-verse got fired up with a whole lot of mixed reactions. Check out some of the fan reactions below:

“So a new trailer for #Aladdin premiered during the #Grammys and it showed Will Smith’s Genie and… I don’t know chief,” one fan wrote.

“Will Smith as the Genie in Aladdin … I’M LOSING MY MIND,” another tweeted.

“Just saw the #Aladdin preview. Totally sold up until I saw the genie,” a fan expressed.

“Was down for that #Aladdin trailer the whole way thru til I saw blue Will Smith,” another wrote.

“I wasn’t prepared for that Aladdin trailer. I need at least 5 days to recover,” one fan shared.

Others were quick to compare him to blue-skinned characters.

“Why does Will Smith in Aladdin look like Paul Giamatti from Big Fat Liar?” a fan asked.

“Will Smith out here looking like an Avatar,” another pointed out, referencing the James Cameron film.

“Saw the new #Aladdin trailer and my god has Megamind got jacked up over the years 😲” one fan tweeted.

But not everyone is hating.

“I mean I personally think the new #Aladdin trailer was amazing. That’s just ME personally though,” one fan defended.

“Twitter was pissed when we saw Thanos the first time too. Said he looked like a toe,” a fan pointed out, adding, “Now, we all love that giant toe so let’s just wait and see if we’ll love the blueberry too k? I have faith. You should too.”

“I have zero doubts in my mind that Will Smith is going to be amazing as the Genie,” another expressed.

And some couldn’t wait to see more.

“First look at Will Smith’s Blue Genie in the new trailer for the live-action #Aladdin. I need to see more! Thoughts?” a fan tweeted.

“Wait shut the front door… A real life #Aladdin is happening yasss!!!! And freaking Will Smith is the Genie!!!! Yasssss!!!!!” this fan wrote.

Guy previously told EW that he “wanted a muscular 1970s dad” look for the Genie.

“He was big enough to feel like a force — not so muscular that he looked like he was counting his calories, but formidable enough to look like you knew when he was in the room,” he adds.

Aladdin will hit theaters on May 24.
